Vatican Conference

Vatican Conference

This fall, experts in the field of disability, theology and parish life gathered in Rome to learn about and seek to improve the accessibility of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. During this 3 day conference, speakers from around the world discussed topics relating to Catechesis in parishes, the sacramental life of the Church, Christian prayer, disability in religious life, and the Deaf community within the Church. If you were not able to attend this conference, there are many ways that you can promote the mission of this event!

Read Pope Francis's Address

Pope Francis addressed members of this catechetical conference by highlighting a fundamental truth of Christian anthropology: Vulnerability is an essential characteristic of  every human being which cannot prevent one from encountering Jesus. For this reason, members of the Church are called to participate in the grace of the sacraments and create appropriate tools to increase the accessibility of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to assist all human beings in living out their vocation. Encounter the People in your Parish

A major part of this conference was not only participating in academic lectures, but also listening to persons from around the world who experience disability. These encounters revealed that persons experience disability in dramatically different ways. Disabilities may or may not be easy to identify, and are rarely lived out in similar ways. Therefore, in order to promote universal catechesis in your parish, seek to know and love each parishioner individually. Through these personal encounters, one will be more able to give and receive the word of God.  To learn about the diverse ways persons experience disability throughout the world, watch this video presentation from the Vatican conference.
