Dioceses approach disability ministry in ways that reflect the uniqueness of their local Church. However, certain elements are essential. Learn more at the link below.
Diocesan Disability Ministry Structure
Even the most well-resourced diocesan office for disability ministry cannot be effective for large numbers of persons with disabilities without investment at the parish level. Ideally, each parish in a diocese will designate a person to serve as a parish contact. This person might be referred to as a parish contact, a parish advocate, or another name that is meaningful within the diocese.
Designating a single person to serve as a parish contact for disability ministry communicates the importance of persons with disabilities in the Body of Christ. Though many persons will be responsible for different tasks and areas of disability ministry, a single person can coordinate efforts, keeping disability ministry as a focus of their total work. There is no one right way to begin this ministry and no one right way this ministry will look. However, this page provides best practices and links to resources.
