In general, NCPD discourages framing disability ministry around labels because 1) more often than not you will not know what specific disability a person has, nor do you need to, 2) labels are not clear cut, and 3) many persons who have one disability label may have more than one. Persons who meet the legal definition of blind, for instance, may not be able to see at all, may only see contrast in light vs. dark, may be able to see print if it is large enough, or may have perfect vision but only in a small window. Hearing that a person is blind leads to assumptions that may or may not be true. Instead, focus on the person in front of you and how to remove barriers for them.
